On the ground floor the house has a large farmhouse kitchen that was refurbished two years ago, and features not only a wide array of appliances but also a character open fireplace. There is also a big comfy lounge perfect for cosy evenings. Upstairs there are five good sized bedrooms, including two doubles, one twin and two bunkbed rooms. There is also a large family bathroom and a downstairs shower room.
Charentaise is great for children of all ages, along with its alarmed swimming pool and enclosed garden; there is a large open barn with table tennis, as well as lots of local attractions for keeping everyone entertained. For those without children, beautiful sunsets and starlit skies can be enjoyed surrounded by peace and quiet from the comfort of the La Maison Charentaise garden or outside table.
This gorgeous French house with its red roof and cream façade sits within the heart of the region's countryside only a short bike ride to the local boulangerie (French bakery), the butchers and a mini grocery store. The larger market town of Aigre is just a 10 minute drive away and holds a regular market for locals and visitors. Cognac and La Rochelle are also within easy reach, and the beach at Royan is just 90KM from La Maison Charentaise. Those wishing to discover other nearby French regions will also find the house well located.
The Poitou-Charentes region is the second warmest in France making summer nights perfect for relaxing and enjoying alfresco meals, watching the sun set over the local vineyards, or admiring the beautiful starlit skies.
During the day spend time in the local village catching your lunch from the Charente River, or alternatively cycle around the many local trails and pathways admiring the views and local flora and fauna. There is also a nearby riding stables, several chateaux and many places to find natural bathing spots, which are an excellent alternative to the beach.
The house is serviced by three airports from the UK and Ireland, these include La Rochelle (one hour), Limoges (45 minutes) and Poitiers (45 minutes) All three airports offer a car hire service. If travelling via train the service runs from Lille to Angouleme or Bordeaux, where cars can also be hired. The local main station is Ruffec (25 minutes).
