After many long years of loving France and dreaming of buying a home there, I finally bought one in 2006. I think you could say it was ‘love at first sight’. I simply fell in love with the house and I have found since, that many of my friends and holidaymakers too, have also been caught by its spell!

Some of the holidaymakers have returned for repeat visits and this coming summer, one family are returning for the 5th or 6th time. It is great that others love the house and location as much as I do.

In early 2017 I hope to extend the house into the adjoining barn. More details will follow throughout the year.

The Poitou Charentes is great for walking, cycling, kayaking, horse-riding and painting, and I shall be preparing itineraries for different options. Of course, there’s the architecture, the churches, castles, beautiful beaches as well as the countryside to visit and the fabulous food and wine to sample. Cookery courses can also be arranged.

The house sits in the French countryside overlooking vines and sunflowers. The village has its own little 13th Century Chateau and Church. The Chateau is open to visitors on Saturday mornings.

We have bread and croissant deliveries a few days a week – the bread van will drive around the village tooting its horn – you either have to chase the van around the village, or organise for it to park up outside the house and toot. For those that prefer an early cycle ride, the boulangerie in Verdille is open at 5am – offering a variety of home baked breads and patisserie together with other provisions. If you feel like a ‘pit-stop’ you can have a coffee before your return cycle ride.

We have a wine-tasting Cave about 3 or 4 miles away, with the most charming and hospital hosts Monsieur and Madame Raymonde Villeneuve. You may turn up for your wine tasting visit and end up coming away with a couple of kilos of leeks and tomatoes from french locals who have also popped in to taste the wine!!

There is Pineau tasting around and about – one each side of Verdille. Pineau is an aperitif normally served with ice and maybe schweppes ginger.

For the moment, the house has 5 bedrooms – 2 with queen size beds, 1 with two single beds, and 2 with bunk beds. There is an extra bed for a youngster/teenager and a cot. There is a bathroom on the first floor and a shower room on the ground floor.

If you have a group that better suits single beds in the bunk bedrooms, please let me know and I will be more than happy to change the bed layout.

On the ground floor there is a large entrance hall/dining hall, a large kitchen breakfast room with open fireplace and a comfortable lounge. All of the floors are wooden flooring.

The outdoor pool is 10m x5m and there’s a variety of inflatable toys for the children to play with. Sufficient sunbeds are provided to ensure you can laze in the sun, when you wish.

The house, garden and pool are enclosed and gated, allowing you the privacy you want for your summer holiday.
